    Questions about subs and equipment

    Question:

My sub keeps jumping around the screen. Why is it doing that?

    Answer:

Your sub is trying to cross-over to an area outside the designated area on the map. This can happen, for example, if a sub is located directly at the edge of the map.

    NPCs and real-life opponents

    Question:

    What is an NPC?

    Answer:

NPCs are computer-controlled elements which prowl around the ocean floor. You’ll run into different kinds of NPCs depending on which territory you’re cruising around in. The NPCs all have different characteristics based on what type they are; some are aggressive in nature or have a massive amount of strength. This means that different amounts of Cel and experience points will be awarded depending on the type of opponent you face.

    NPCs and real-life opponents

    Question:

Can I shoot down NPCs? What do I receive for shooting down NPCs?

    Answer:

Yes, without question! NPCs are yours to shoot down as you like, and you’ll receive a certain number of EP (Experience points) for doing so. In some cases, you might even walk away with Cel and Helix for successfully destroying an NPC, but to get raw materials, you’re going to have to collect pieces of wreckage. Shooting down NPCs is also a vital part of many quests: so arm yourself with torpedoes for battle!

    NPCs and real-life opponents

    Question:

Can I shoot down other submarines?

    Answer:

Yes, you’re authorized to fight against other subs. If you blow up another sub, you’ll get 10% of their current experience points (in most cases). Don’t forget that appearances can be deceiving: Just because a sub looks valuable or has a higher level doesn’t mean that you’ll get a bigger payout. The cargo and equipment on board the sub is usually much more important!

    Dry dock – Equipment

    Question:

What items can I equip here? How do I equip something?

    Answer:

In the dry dock, in the sub-category “Equipment”, you can outfit your sub with the items you have purchased. You also have a detailed overview of your subs and equipment there.

Every sub has a different cargo capacity which is indicated by so-called “slots”. Select an item from the list on the right-hand side that you would like to install onto your sub. Use the “plus” and “minus” keys on your keyboard to add more of the same type of equipment.

All you need to do now is to click on “equip”, and all the parts you selected will be installed onto your ship. If you wish to remove items from your sub, just click on “Into storage” to send them back.

Equipment can be sold back the same way if you’re in a financial bind.

The equipping of your ship will take some time to complete. You can see how long it will take in the tiny clock in the equipment window.

    Dry dock – Merchant

    Question:

What can I buy from the merchant? Why are there only certain items for sale there?

    Answer:

On the left-hand side you will find a list of all the items that the merchant has for sale. You can narrow your search for an item by using the button on the right-hand side at the top.

Standard items can be bought right away without you having to fulfill any other requirements other than being able to pay for them in Cel.

Higher quality items have certain requirements such as a specific level, which means you’ll have to reach a certain level before you can buy them.

    Dry dock – Marina

    Question:

    What is the marina?

    Answer:

The marina is the place where elite equipment is auctioned off. Bids for these items have to be made in Cel, or they can be bought right away for Helix using the “Buy now” option.

You can bid for your own elite equipment here. An auction lasts exactly 59 minutes. The person who makes the highest bid wins the auction. Note: If you’re not the highest bidder, the Cel you made your bid with won’t be reimbursed.

The offers in the marina change on an hourly basis.

    Confederations

    Question:

Where can I select a Confederation?

    Answer:

On the homepage, you can select the confederation you want to belong to. There are three confederations that are engaged in a deadly war for power at the bottom of the ocean – the Nauts, Scion and Jafnhar. Each confederation has its pros and cons.

Take a good look at the evolutionary history, philosophies and beliefs of each confederation to get an idea of which one best represents you.

Did you receive an invitation to change confederations upon arriving at a station?

You can change your confederation from level 1 to 5 at no cost. This way you can get a better feeling for all the confederations at Deepolis. Starting in level 6, you’ll have to pay a fee of Helix to change confederations. This fee will be reduced in price depending on how long you have been with a confederation. You can see how much it will cost you in Helix in the “confederation menu”. Fraction changes are only allowed to players who are not yet a member of a clan.

A detailed description of the confederations can be found in the “confederation menu”.

    Trading system

    Question:

    What is the trading system?

    Answer:

In the new trading system, there are two types of items that can be traded:

    • Raw materials
    • Trade commodities

    Raw materials:
Raw materials can be found floating around everywhere in the ocean. They are hidden in containers or pieces of wreckage from NPCs or other players. Each underwater station buys different types of raw materials.

    Commodities:
Commodities aren’t that easy to come by. You’ll find them in containers and pieces of wreckage every once in a blue moon. They are also manufactured on board sub-aquatic stations. Since every station isn’t capable of producing everything to make these commodities, you’ll have to provide them with the necessary items in order to do so.

The quality of life on board the stations for your residents depends on whether or not you are able to deliver them enough supplies. If you do your job well, the number of residents on board will increase as well as the total amount of production.

The price of the commodities depends on the demand for them. If a station doesn’t have a large supply of a certain commodity, then the price for this item will increase at this station. The same rule does not apply to raw materials.

    Group system

    Question:

What exactly is the group system? How does it work?

    Answer:

You can unite with your fellow players to form an alliance and play together in a group. All items that you collect or experience points that you win as a group will be split evenly among all group members.

How do you create a group?
On the underwater map, you can open the group window by pressing the "G" key. Select a player who you what to invite to join your group or write the name of the player in the field at the top of the group window. Then click the “Invite” button on the top left and the invitation will be sent. You can also withdraw your invitation to a player by clicking on the "x" after the name.

How do you accept an invitation to a group?
Open the group window by pressing on the "G" key. In the window, you’ll see a list of the names of the players who invited you to their group. Now all you need to do is accept or reject the invitation by clicking on the following symbols:
    "X" --> Reject
    "√" --> Accept

How do you change the leader of a group?
The founder of the group is also the leader of a group at first. Only the leader of a group can invite new members into and kick members out of a group. The leader can also nominate another member of the group to be the new leader. Next to the name of the group members there are two buttons: the button on the left can be used to make another player the group leader.

How do you remove a player from a group?
After the names of the players there are two buttons: The button the right can be used to kick a player out of a group.

How do you leave a group?
On the top right of the window there is a button to leave a group.

Can you belong to more than one group?
No, you’re only allowed to belong to one group at any one time.

    Important:
All players in a group have to navigate through waters outside the safe zone. Players within this zone won’t receive any EP, Cel or cargo. If you move too far away from your group, no items can be split up and divided among all the group players.

    Technical help for the game

    Question:

How do I increase the memory of the Flash Player?

    Answer:

First things first: Open the underwater map (client) in order to change the settings for your Flash Player.

Once you’re on the underwater map, use your mouse and click on the map with the right mouse button:

Click on “Settings” in the panel that opens. Activate the hardware acceleration in this panel and then click on the folder image below.

This will bring you to the settings for the Flash Player. There you can find out just how much information you can save in your memory for Deepolis. Don’t underestimate how much memory you will need. It’s best if you just set the memory to unlimited.

You should clear your cache and restart your computer so that the new settings will be implemented.

    Technical help for the game

    Question:

I keep getting error messages, and/or the game is taking too long to load or doesn’t load at all.

    Answer:

These error messages provide examples why the game isn’t running smoothly:

    1) Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 8 are the only browsers which are ideal for playing Deepolis. If you’re using other browsers, you could run into problems.

    2) You’re not using the latest version of the Flash Player. Remember to update this on a regular basis.

    3) It’s important to clear your cache and remove cookies on a regular basis in order to ensure the smooth operation of the game.

How do I clear my cache

    4) If it’s taking too long to load the game or the map isn’t opening, it might be a good idea to increase the memory of the Flash Player.

How do I increase the memory of the Flash Player?

    5) The performance of your computer isn’t to blame. Only the RAM and graphic card can have a direct effect on the game.

The CPU performance doesn’t really play a role, since the Flash Player is set up to run on only one core CPU. That’s why it doesn’t matter if you play the game using a dual core or quad core processor.

If you have any problems with this, please check if other programs are open and close them. Secondary programs will only overload the system and cause problems if you leave them running at the same time.

    6) The Flash Player saves data to your browser’s cache, but it also saves data on to your computer which should also be deleted on a regular basis.
It also helps to delete info on the Flash Player, if the chat window gets pushed down off the screen and can’t be moved any more.

Here are some instructions on how to delete information on each type of browser system:

    Instructions for Windows XP
The hidden files in Windows Explorer first have to be set to visible. This can be completed as follows:

Open Windows Explorer --> Tools --> Folder options --> Select the “View” tab and “Show all files and folders” and then click on “OK”.

    Afterwards, proceed as follows:

    Please open this folder:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application data\Macromedia\Flash Player\

Attention: Your username is your Windows username!

The easiest way to do this is to open up “My Computer” and enter the path as shown above into the browser’s address bar. You will only have to replace the word “Username” with your Windows username.
Once you are in this index, you'll need to select the folder “#SharedObjects”. This folder contains another folder with an interesting name like QWHAJ7FR or something similar. The information in this folder has to be deleted completely!

Now go back to this folder again:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application data\Macromedia\Flash Player\

Access the folder “sys” over the folders “macromedia.com”, “support” and “flashplayer”. Delete almost everything – except for the file “settings”!
After rebooting the computer, the process will be complete.

    Instructions for Vista

The hidden files in Windows Explorer first have to be set to visible. This can be accomplished as follows:

Open Windows Explorer --> Tools --> Folder options --> Select the “View” tab and “Show all files and folders” and then click on “OK”.

    Afterwards, proceed as follows:

    Please open this file:

    C:\Users\ Username\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\

Attention: Your username is your Windows username!

The easiest way to do this is to open up “My Computer” and enter the path as shown above into the browser’s address bar. You will only have to replace the word “Username” with your Windows username.
Once you are in this index, you'll need to select the folder “#SharedObjects”. This folder contains another folder with an interesting name like QWHAJ7FR or similar. The information in this folder has to be deleted completely!

Now go back to this folder again:

    C:\Users\ Username\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\

Access the folder “sys” over the folders “macromedia.com”, “support” and “flashplayer”. Delete almost everything here – except for the file “Settings”!

We highly recommend using the CC cleaner (CCleaner) to keep your computer clean. It’s a helpful tool which is easy to use and free of charge to keep everything organized on your PC.

On Linux [KDE with Konqueror or Dolphin as File Manager]
Click on Home on your Desktop, View Menu, click on show hidden files [ Alt+. hotkey ]
Then go to the .macromedia folder, Flash_Player folder , #SharedObjects folder, sessionkey folder.
    select all and delete.

on my own system that Linux path is:
    /home/jaqui/.macromedia/Flash_Player/#SharedObjects/7R8CBYXV

    Small tips for the game

    Question:

How can I repair a sub worth 25,000 Cel without having to invest any Helix?

    Answer:

The cost of repairing a sub worth 25,000 Cel in Helix is just too expensive for some players. These players shouldn’t give up hope too fast as there is an alternative. Players can also repair their sub completely for 12,500 Cel; all they need to do is the following:

    1. Sell the damaged sub to get 12,500 Cel in return.
    2. Buy a new sub for 25,000 Cel.

This way you will only pay 12,500 for the new sub.

There’s also another trick which has worked up until now: If the sub is sold, it means that you’ll get all your equipment back. It will automatically be transferred back to the station’s storehouse (How long you’ll be able to take advantage of this trick is uncertain).

This is a sure-fire way to repair your sub completely for only 12,500 Cel. The only thing you’ll have to repair separately are the additional sub hulls. It’s the fastest and cheapest way to repair your sub without having to dish out a staggering amount of Helix.

You can also do this to repair a sub worth 100,000 Cel if you wish to save your Helix. In this case, you’ll get your sub completely repaired and will only have to pay 50,000 Cel for a brand-spanking new sub.

Cel earnings gained for selling subs and equipment

A lot of things can happen in the game which might make it necessary for you to sell your sub or equipment. Here’s an explanation and summary of the money you’ll get for the items.

For equipment which you bought from the merchant using Cel (excluding elite items from the marina) you’ll get one-half of the original purchase price back.

    Example:

The iron hull costs 5,000 Cel from the merchant which means when you sell it, you’ll only get 2,500 Cel back.

For elite equipment which you bought from the merchant using Helix, you’ll get 5 times the amount in Cel when you sell it. This rule also applies to elite equipment, but not to elite subs which you bought in an auction at the marina. (For subs, see "Exception to the rule" below.) For items won in an auction, the amount you bid is irrelevant. Your reimbursement will be based solely on the cost of that item at the merchant.

    Example:

Elite hulls cost 3,500 Helix at the merchant. If you sell them, you’ll get 17,500 Cel back (3,500 Helix x 5 = 17,500).
As mentioned above, this rule also applies to elite equipment which you purchased in an auction at the marina. Again, for items won in an auction, the amount you bid is irrelevant. Your reimbursement will be based solely on the cost of that item at the merchant.

    Example:

It doesn’t matter if you buy an elite hull in an auction at the marina for 10,000 Cel or 100,000 Cel, the maximum amount that you’ll get back when you sell it is 17,500 Cel (3,500 Helix x 5 = 17,500 Cel).
    Exception to the rule:
For elite subs which you bought for Cel in an auction, you’ll get 90% of your bid back.
    Example:
You bought an elite sub for 1,000,000 Cel in an auction, which means you’ll only get 900,000 when you sell it.

    Brief explanation of game vocabulary

Here’s a brief explanation of all the terms used at Deepolis to make starting out in the game easier for newbies:

    DP = Deepolis

    BP = Bigpoint

Spam = Spam (sequence of letters that don’t make sense, like "jfadshg")

Flame = Flame comes from "flaming"; a flame is a direct or indirect insult to other players.

Noob = Newbie describes a player who just started playing the game or a player who plays dumb as if they don’t know anything. The term noob has a negative connotation in the chat when it used to describe beginner players or newbies.

    CM = Chat moderator

    FM = Forum moderator

    BA = Board administrator

    Sup. = Supporter
